Many women in their 30s and 40s can start to feel ‘off’ with their hormones–not ill exactly, but not feeling like they have the energy they used to, struggling with diet and exercise programs, and juggling work, family responsibilities and sleep. Periods may be too long, too heavy, too frequent or may come and go with no apparent pattern. Pre-menstrual symptoms may suddenly appear and create havoc for a few days or a week each month. You may feel irritable, just not ‘settled’ in your own skin and wonder what on earth has happened.
You may have talked to your family doctor about this, have tried a ‘low dose pill’ or had an IUD fitted, or told it was just something you had to get used to. Over time, the problems may seem to be getting worse and you may wonder if this is the way things have to be.
Our lives have certainly changed since our mothers’ or grandmothers’ generation.
Research is telling us that emotional or physical stress both cause long term changes to our biochemistry that make it more difficult for us to feel healthy and balanced. Additionally, increasing amounts of pollution in our environment, chemicals in our food and personal care products, and lack of exposure to natural light are causing disruption to the production of energy right down to our cells–making many women feel flat, burned out, and out of synch. Eventually, this will make us ill.
After almost a decade in practice, I believe it is possible to rebalance our energy, our sleep and our sense of well being by looking at how our bodies have adapted to stress in ways that may not be healthy. By restoring proper digestion, good sleep, hormone balance, as well as good lifestyle habits, we can renew ourselves from the inside out. And enjoy our lives much more.
Some of the ways I can help restore healthy hormone balance include:
- Food sensitivity testing, elimination/challenge: to determine if the foods you are eating regularly are causing problems.
- Adrenal and female hormone testing: to determine if your stress or female hormones are contributing to your health problems
- Nutrient/botanical or complex homeopathic therapies to restore hormone balance and energy.
- Advice on bio-identical hormone (BHRT) therapy vs conventional HRT therapy for peri- and post-menopausal symptoms.
